Water Training Courses
Water Regulations Advisory Scheme (WRAS)
Overview
Xtra Skills’ Water Regulations Advisory Scheme (WRAS) course is for plumbing and heating installers who need to gain the knowledge of the Water Regulations (1999) before applying to join their local water authorities “Water Industry Approved Plumber Scheme”, one of the plumbing competent person schemes (CPS) or Microgeneration Certification Scheme (MCS) registration bodies.
To qualify for the WRAS course, candidates should have two years of plumbing experience.
Hot Water Systems and Safety
Xtra Skills provides personnel training, assessment and certification for contractors working with Vented and Unvented Hot Water Systems.
What is the Hot Water Systems and Safety qualification?
The Building Regulations Part G3 defines unvented hot water systems as a “controlled service” and as such, it is a legal requirement that all unvented hot water installations are notified to the local Building Control department. The unvented hot water system is a certificate of competence, which complies with G3 of the Building Regulations, Approved Document G and is recognised by Competent Person Schemes for both Plumbing and Heating Installation. The course also covers vented hot water systems and thermostatic mixing valves (TMVs) due to recent issues with scalding addressed by the Health & Safety Executive (HSE).
Why do I need to be qualified?
To install unvented hot water systems, you need to either notify the work via Building Control or be registered to self-certify with a Competent Person Scheme, to be able to carry out work on an unvented hot water system, installers will need to be able to demonstrate their competence by holding a current certificate of competence.
Course Content
The course covers all aspects of unvented and vented hot water installation including legislative requirements and safety issues as well as the correct installation, commissioning, and servicing of systems.
Course Duration
The duration of the course is 1 day and includes a Hot Water Systems and Safety Handbook.
